Very few times in my life have I seen a game as chalked full of nostalgia as Retro City Rampage. As you can probably assume from the title and banner, the main theme of the game surrounds itself in the “retro.” The game takes the 8-bit stylings that you grew up with as a kid and fuses them seamlessly with the open world action games you love today, all the while incorporating throwbacks to a plethora of classic games. For example there are various areas in the game that have grassy areas with green tubes and green trees with eyes, that look suspiciously similar to those in Super Mario Bros. The way Retro City Rampage plays is very classic as well. Look at the gameplay style of Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2, that will give you a ballpark idea of how the game is played. Of course that doesn’t entirely due this title justice because there is just simply so much more involved with the game’s mechanics. It’s a power-packed combo of everything you know and love about retro gaming.

Retro City Rampage has been widely excepted in the gaming community. In 2010 it won an “Inside Gaming’s Best of Pax” award. I started following the game over a year and I can honestly say it’s been really cool to watch the support for this game grow. VBlank Entertainment Inc. has done a truly amazing job. It’s rare these days to find a game that doesn’t take itself completely serious. We are forced to sit through dramatic cut scenes and terrible dialogue exchanges that end up compromising the overall playability of a game. If I want drama and intrigue, I will play Mass Effect, if I want action and classic fun, I guarantee I will be playing Retro City Rampage.
Retro City Rampage is gearing up for major digital release on a variety of online distributors including; Xbox Live Arcade, Steam, Playstation Network, and WiiWare.
