Final Versus What?

So, Kotaku posted that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was dead but it turns out, not so much. I can’t really blame Kotaku, The last big news about this game was over a year and a half ago with a (admittedly) good looking trailer:

This leads to an interesting question, if it’s still going on, where is it? I seem to remember Final Fantasy XIII and Versus being announced at the same time, was I drunk? I mean, I usually have a good buzz going, but still. In all honesty, Versus looked a lot more interesting than XIII ever did. And while we’re at it, where’s a Chrono Trigger sequel, Square Enix? And how come I can’t get no Tang ’round here?

    1. It’s definitely been a roller coaster ride with Square Enix on this one, which is never a promising sign for development. Hopefully they don’t poorly mash a project together as a fan service gesture.

      1. FFXII seemed like it took a million years too, but I’m pretty happy with the end result. That being said, I’m not sure this is cause for optimism for Versus XIII.

      2. It seems like they took a completely different approach with FF13 and it didn’t pay off. I’m hoping they realize this and keep from digging a much deeper hole for the franchise.

  1. Man, I can’t believe the CGI they used for that beginning part looks so gorgeous, it almost undermines the pretentiousness of the game.

Then again, every final fantasy is more pretentious than the last.

    1. The cinematics have looked beautiful for the last few games as well, I get sucked in by flare and get left with an empty feeling after actually playing the game. When all the ancient summons became motorcycles and jet planes, I lost all hope….
