Diablo 3 On Consoles

Diablo3-Feature

There have been rumors circulating around the internet for several months about Diablo 3 eventually making it’s way to consoles and yesterday Blizzard confirmed that this blockbuster title is currently running on unspecified consoles. Unfortunately this still isn’t listed as an “official project.”

Executive Producer Rob Pardo explained to Polygon that this was simply a means of testing to see how well the game would run on consoles and if things went well enough, it could eventually lead to various ports.

“We’re still kind of exploring it,” he explained. “We’ve got builds up and running on it. We’re hoping to get it far enough along where we can make it an official project, but we’re not quite ready to release stuff about it, but it’s looking pretty cool.”

This is very exciting news for anyone wishing for a Diablo 3 on their very own home console. It would be very interesting to see how well this type of game would fair on the Xbox 360 or PS3. Meanwhile Blizzard promises to keep updating and expanding Diablo 3‘s core content.

  1. A nice idea, but I’d be concerned about the always online DRM that was on the PC version, in this day and age I really wouldn’t be surprised if you needed an Xbox live gold subscription to play it or registered with PSN.

    1. They might do something similar with that on the xbox gold membership, but then again it’s a lot more involved when trying to copy xbox and ps3 games. Maybe it would even support offline single player.

      1. Offline single player would be their best bet, after the embarrassment of the release and the servers being clogged they don’t need another release like that.

  2. Dude, imagine this on the Wii U as well. You could have your character on the bottom screen and switch gear. You could also have your talents on the Gamepad to more easily switch skills on the fly which would be kind of a neat trick in the PVP. There is PVP now isn’t there? They could also just use it for a map viewer, but yeh. Cool stuff.

    1. The gamepad would work really well. It would be super cool for.inventory management. Unfortunately Blizzard still hasn’t added a PvP feature to the game… Even though it was promised before launch.

  3. I still have yet to pick this game up, but if it were to come to consoles, I’d have to grab it. Despite their server issues at launch and maybe even now, I’d still love for it to come to consoles.
