A couple of updates dropped for everyone’s favorite franchise, Resident Evil, this morning.
First off, great job guys, we did it! The “Zombie Mayhem” online event has been completed, which means you now have access to the snazzy retro skins for your characters. Didn’t get a chance to partake in the event? That’s okay! The next event, “Neutralize the Threat“, starts tomorrow and is achieved once the world has slaughtered 30,000 Orgromen by February 8th. Let’s get on it!
Last order of business, is Resident Evil getting a reboot? Series producer Masachika Kawata said the franchise might need a “slight reboot” after the disappointing sales and reception from RE:6. The interviewer hinted at open-world, (please no…) but Capcom seems to already have a pretty good idea of where to take the series next. With the re-release of Resident Evil: Revelations coming in May, Capcom will be measuring this title’s success very closely and it may have more of an impact on the future of the franchise than we first thought.
I’m not sure man, I think an open world Resident Evil would be possible. They would have to have more features than your regular RE title, but if done right could be awesome.
Think of it, you’d have to be quiet in some areas or you’d attract attention. You could find NPC (with A.I. that doesn’t blow) allies or online coop (not RE: The MMO). Personally, they’d also have to have a limited number of zombies until the next “act”. A never ending stream would be lame.
I look forward to the next great Resident Evil.
Open world could be really good. A-la Resident Evil: Outbreak. That game had so much potential and just failed. I want a reboot of that.
