Earlier today, IGN featured some of the first ever public gameplay footage for the upcoming Capcom release, Lost Planet 3. The new development team is focusing heavily on co-op and from what I’ve seen so far, things are looking very promising.
The multiplayer in Lost Planet has always been a mixed bag for me. I’ve always loved the concept of epic 8-on-8 battles with giant mechs and grappling hooks, but there’s always been something missing from the Lost Planet multiplayer experience. The new developer, Spark Unlimited is totally changing that formula. Battles have been shrunk down to either 3-on-3 or 5-on-5 and there are far fewer encounters with enemy mechs. You will notice right away that things are looking much tighter.
There will be a total of four multiplayer modes and six maps to launch with Lost Planet 3. IGN got the opportunity to try out two of the four modes and they released some really well done commentary videos of the “Scenario” and “Akrid Survival” modes. Here is Scenario mode on the ‘Alpha Lair’ map:

[youtube http://youtu.be/9kP1LeUGPYE]I’ve been a huge fan of the Lost Planet series and I’m very excited to see what Spark Unlimited will bring to the table. The controls are definitely look more polished and well-refined. I’m a little disappointed that the campaign won’t have any co-op options, but I’m hoping this is to allow for more engaging storytelling.
Lost Planet 3 is scheduled for release on June 25th, 2013.
Lost Planet is another one of those series of games that were panned in reviews, but I happened to enjoy the original. The second one annoyed the shit out of me, especially the train level, but 3 looks promising.
The second one had a laundry list of issues, but I thought it was a really great co-op game. When that first came out a few good friends and I played through it at least 4 times. It was like watching a bad horror movie.
Haha, exactly. It was so bad it was good.
That’s totally how I felt, especially when our crew consisted of Wesker, Frank West, Marcus, and Dom from Gears. You could tell they were just being ridiculous and that made it fun.
