The Gears of War franchise is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in gaming and for good reason. This series revolutionized cover-based shooting and raised the standard for what was considered “next-gen” graphics. We love every game in it’s own way, but we all have our favorites. For this week’s round of Nerd Wars! we want to know your Gears of choice.
Megadeth obviously loves Gears of War more than any of us combined. They wrote a song trying to capture it’s glory.
Whyyy do you make us choose?!
Because there can be only one Highlander! I thought the logic was interchangeable.

Uhu… how come “There can be only one” like five times then (or four, we don’t acknowledge film #4 – because IT MAKES NO SENSE!)?
Hahaha there can be only 5! Mainly just Raiden from Mortal Kombat.

Tough call. I enjoyed all of them, but I put the most time into Gears 2. That gets my vote, broken matchmaking and all.
I’m right there with you. Gears 2 is my favorite. It had the best campaign and even though matchmaking was sketchy, I still had a ton of fun.

Gears 2 is my favorite
I’m all in for the original. It’s probably just because I played the campaign solo so much when it came out, but it also feels more raw than the others and I appreciate that.
Now this is a bold statement, that not everyone will agree with, but I honestly believe the first Gears of War changed shooters forever. It was a huge milestone for ‘next-gen.’
I couldn’t agree more! Resident Evil 4 started the over the shoulder thing, but Gears perfected it. It’s incredible how well everything works except for the silly spotlight car sequence. All those other people just don’t know what’s good.
Don’t get me started on the driving part! Why!???? I don’t know a single person who enjoyed that bit.

This is one of my biggest “List of Shame” Franchises. I have yet to finish Gears 1 :(. And not for any other reason than time and other games! I really like what I played!
It’s definitely worth playing through. Such a well crafted campaign. If you get the chance, it’s totally worth your time.

Wasn’t a huge fan of ‘3 or Judgment, but I had a blast playing the first two (particularly the original). Playing alongside 3 buddies in 4v4 games of Warzone online was my first (and best) experience of Xbox Live. Gridlock and Mansion were awesome maps!
That is so awesome. That is basically my same xbox live experience. Gears of War 1 and 2 were some of the best times I’ve had online gaming.
