Several months ago, Nintendo announced that they were releasing a brand new Yoshi’s Island game for the 3DS. Today at Gamescon we were given the official name and some brand new gameplay, courtesy the folks at Nintendomination.

The original Yoshi’s Island is one of my all-time favorite games and Yoshi’s New Island seems to borrow heavily from that classic formula. It’s really great to see Nintendo focusing on some of the fantastic titles that helped establish their critical role in game development. I was blown away the first time I played Yoshi’s Island and I hope Nintendo can deliver that same powerful experience to today’s generation.
There is currently no official release date, but is currently set for a 2014 release. Until then, we must all wait patiently.
I all up for another Yoshi’s Island, the original was/is a great game and the DS one – by Artoon – was actually pretty OK. Hopefully it take more after Nintendo’s effort.
Kind of wish it was all 2D sprites like the original, but I suppose you can’t have everything. Looks like it’s coming on well anyway.
Still want it released yesterday though. 😛
The original is an amazing game. The DS title was good enough for what it was, but it couldn’t compete with the amount of creativity and originality that went into the first game.
I’m hoping Nintendo brings their ‘A’ game with these SNES reboots. I don’t want them tainting the fond memories of my childhood.
