For last week’s round of Nerd Wars! we asked you guys and gals to cast your vote for the best game of 2013. There was some pretty stiff competition, but we’ve tallied the results and confirmed your pick for game of the year.
Drum roll please… And the winner of the official Nerd Wars! game of the year award goes to….
The Last of Us
The Last of Us commanded a whopping 25% or your total votes and nearly doubled the count of our runner up, Bioshock: Infinite. There is no doubt in our minds that this PS3 exclusive deserves the title of “game of the year.” I’ve talked to countless people who would defend this game to the death and it’s even managed to keep one of the highest average scores in Metacritic history; a solid 95%.

Naughty Dog set out to create one of the most immersive gaming experiences of all time and they succeeded. The attention to detail throughout The Last of Us is astounding. The gameplay isn’t anything you wouldn’t get with Uncharted 3 or most other action game for that matter, but the narrative and flow of this title is spot on. Anyone who’s taken the time to play through this gripping story will tell you it’s worth the ride. It might not be your favorite game of all time, but it’s absolutely worth playing and it deserves all the praise it’s received.

It’s very well deserving of the title. It’s definitely on my list of favorite games of all time.
I definitely enjoyed my time with the game. It’s one of those rare titles that everyone just kind of needs to experience.

I agree completely.
The Last of Us was good but not great. You take your typical zombie outbreak story and slap some good voice acting on it and you have The Last of Us. It didn’t even make my top ten.
It didn’t make my top five, but I’d absolutely say it was a great game. It may not be your cup of tea, but from strictly a game design perspective, it was pretty incredible.
