The year is Meio: 048, on an alternate dystopian future of Earth. The whole planet suffers under the oppressive rule of the mysterious Grand Master Meio. An expert in sabotage and assassination, Hiryu is the youngest ever recruit to attain a Special A-Class in the hellish Strider training program and is the only man capable of achieving the mission to eliminate Grand Master Meio.

Strider will release in North America for Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on February 19th for $14.99, but Playstation Network users will be granted access to the game one day early for PS3 and PS4.

Announced alongside the release date was the addition of two brand new game modes. Beacon Run, which fuels your need for speed, challenges players to slice through enemies as quickly as possible while attempting to reach the designated checkpoints before time expires, and Survival Mode, which pits players against increasingly difficult waves of enemies that will not stop until you are defeated.

While defeating the evil forces of Grand Master Meio in Story Mode, players can unlock various costumes for Hiryu by by uncovering the vestiges of fallen Striders. This adds a decent level of customization to your Plasma Cypher rampage.

Double Helix did an amazing job breathing some much needed life into the Killer Instinct franchise and I can’t wait to see what they deliver with Strider.

    1. I have my fingers and toes crossed! Double Helix has completely turned their reputation around with Killer Instinct and another successful reboot will only lead to greater things.

  1. I loved Strider on the NES and the reboot on the PSone, so the new reboot was a no brainer.. but what really amps me up to play it is the phenomenal job Double Helix did with Killer Instinct.

  2. Interesting, I loved both Strider 1 and 2. This game seems like it’s a solid combination of both with a bit of that Killer instinct flavor. Going to be weird trying to play this baby on the PC.

    1. I’m assuming the PC version will have controller support because if it doesn’t… oh boy is that going to tricky!

  3. Had this come out before the KI reboot, I probably wouldn’t have been that stoked since this was the studio that brought us mediocre movie tie ins before then. But it could actually be another surprise. Who knows? Hopefully Double Helix continues the trend with this one.

    1. I remember everyone raging when it was announced that Double Helix would be developing the new Killer Instinct… and then the game dropped and silenced all the skeptics. I love what this team did with Killer Instinct and I’m excited to see what they do with Strider.

  4. I saw this game at the London Comic Con and wasn’t too impressed. The Capcom employee demonstrating it kept dying. You’d think he would practice completing the demo level before going in front of an audience lol.

    1. Lol… that always kills a demo. There’s nothing worse than watching somebody just completely suck at a video game. I know Strider is supposed to be rather difficult, but come on…
