With Double Helix‘s stock rising after the success of Killer Instinct, it was only a matter of time before a larger corporation took them under their wing. Surprisingly, that larger corporation wasn’t Microsoft.
It’s been rumored for a while now that Amazon wants to get in to the console market with an Android-based gaming machine, and acquiring an experienced studio like Double Helix seems to be one of many steps to put this concept in to fruition.
Double Helix has a long history of creating giant action games, but more recently came in to the spotlight for their fantastic reboot of the Killer Instinct series on the Xbox One. With the Fulgore character slated for a March release and a promised 2nd season of Killer Instinct, what does the future hold for the series? Don’t worry just yet, as Microsoft has confirmed the series is staying with Microsoft Studios.
A Microsoft rep spoke with Polygon, stating “”We want all of our loyal fans to know that the Killer Instinct team at Microsoft is not changing and that the franchise will remain with Microsoft Studios” and that they “remain dedicated to delivering a great experience and plan to announce our new development partner soon. We’re excited about the future of this popular franchise.”
Killer Instinct is available now exclusively on Xbox One, while Strider is slated to release later this month on multiple platforms.
