Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Freedom Cry DLC Going Standalone on PS3/PS4, not Xbox 360/Xbox One

In an odd turn of events, Ubisoft confirmed that the first dose of DLC will be offered as a standalone product on Sony platforms later this month, but Xbox owners will still need to have the retail version of Black Flag to enjoy it.

An Ubisoft spokesperson discussed the decision with Gamespot, stating “Sony and Ubisoft have built a solid partnership on the Assassin’s Creed brand, and Sony shares our enthusiasm for expanding the reach of this game.”

Freedom Cry is set 15 years after the events of Black Flag, and features Captain Edward Kenway’s former quartermaster-turned-assassin Adewale as the primary protagonist. We reviewed the DLC here at What’s Your Tag? and felt that while the narrative was strong, it ended up just being more of the same tail-and-chase missions we just spent doing for over 50 hours in Black Flag.
