Set for release on May 20th in North America for most current and last-gen consoles (sorry, Nintendo fans), all Wolfenstein: The New Order pre-orders will receive a beta key for Doom 4, which will start on a “yet-to-be announced date.” Excited yet? Good.
In regards to obtaining a beta key without purchasing the new Wolfenstein, Edwin Evans-Thirlwell, Deputy Editor for Xbox: The Official Magazine states “If you’re not so keen on the new Wolfenstein, a statement mailed to Eurogamer hints that there may be other ways to access the beta.”
So when does the Doom 4 beta actually start?
“Although you’ll receive the DOOM beta key code with your copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the DOOM beta won’t begin until a later, yet-to-be announced date. We will contact you with news and updates surrounding the start of the DOOM beta via the email address provided during the key code redemption process.”
Anyone else having flashbacks to buying Brave Fencer Mushashi on PSone, just to play the Final Fantasy VIII demo? Or maybe buying Crackdown on the Xbox 360 just to get access to the Halo 3 multi-player beta? What about buying Zone of Enders on PS2 for the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo?
I’m hoping this one is good. Though the lack of any previews or PR so close to release is cause for concern.
The new trailer doesn’t really do anything for me, and I completely loathed the more recent release on last-gen consoles. I don’t think a Doom 4 beta code is enough to entice me in to giving them another chance, but I’d happily consider a rental.
well i’ll be the guy that goes to pre-order for the beta code just for shits and giggles, I remember rocking the original Doom wayyyyy back in the day, who knows….. it could be good
Doom 3 was excellent, it’s just purchasing Wolfenstein that I’m worried about lol. They’ve been pretty terrible.
