Fans have eagerly been awaiting updates regarding Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, an HD remake of the Playstation classic, Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey. Today we get a delicious look at our next visit to Oddworld via the first official gameplay trailer. Prepare to die… again…
I know what you’re thinking, “Hey! “Prepare to die” is Dark Souls’ catch phrase!,” but let me assure you, Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey was punishing players long before Demon’s Souls or Dark Souls was even a thought. If you’re looking for a true challenge, this is a fantastic place to start, especially for those unfamiliar with this incredible game.
Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey is one of the greatest trial and error puzzle-platformers of all time. It combined an exciting and engaging universe with beautifully crafted and totally rewarding gameplay. You seriously had to earn every single checkpoint in that game and all too often players would die countless times before solving puzzles. Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is rebuilding the original game from the ground up with impressive next-gen visuals and a completely remade library of music and sound effects.
If you’re a fan of Oddworld, feel free to share your love for the series in the comment section below. I’ve missed this quirky universe full of madness and I’d love to see Abe make a glorious comeback.
Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is currently scheduled for release on PS4 and Vita in Spring 2014.
Seriously: this is one of my most highly anticipated releases of 2014. I was a HUGE fan of the original Abe’s games, and I bought the original Xbox specifically for Munch. Really wishing they’d put a release date on this thing.
Abe’s Odyssey is one of my favorite PSOne games. Wait, scratch that. It’s one of my favorite games of all time. I can’t wait to replay this in beautiful HD with a remastered soundscape. I’m seriously considering getting a PS Vita solely for this release…
OH RIGHT, Vita crossplay! Damn. I’ve been on the fence about the Vita for a while now, but if I can take this on the subway? It’s on. (And Fez will be on the Vita, too, apparently!)
I would basically just be using the Vita to play Playstation legacy games, so I need to ask myself it it’s worth the price point, but who knows? Maybe I’ll end up loving it.
But what’s wrong with that? Right now my PS3 is in a non-ideal gaming location, but I’d still love to get my hands on those new FFX remasters… the Vita would be perfect for that.
It actually doesn’t sound like a bad idea the more I think about it. I could play some of the amazing PSOne RPG’s I grew up with. I want an HD remake of FF8. That would rock my world.
A Severly underrated franchise.
*severely lol
Seriously! This franchise needs way more attention! I hope this remake really blows up.
