Diablo 3 is Coming to Xbox One, Maybe?

Diablo 3
Several months ago the Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition was confirmed for PS4. This left many fans concerned about the fate of the game for Microsoft’s latest console. Today lead producer Alex Mayberry confirmed that a version for Xbox One is in development, but it’s release is still uncertain.

“I don’t know where we are with Microsoft right now so I can’t really comment on what that contract looks like,” he said. “The point is we are developing for Xbox [One] and PS4 simultaneously. We hit those major platforms and then our goal as a development team is to make them run.”

Mayberry went on to explain that developing for both consoles just makes more sense. “We’ve already done it with the 360 and PS3, so that team knows how to develop at the same time for both of those platforms. At this point it sounds like the ball is in Microsoft’s court.”That’s just what we do. And then Blizzard and Microsoft can work out whatever they work out.”

The lack of immediate support is slightly understandable considering the lukewarm sales numbers for Xbox 360 and PS3, but hopefully the folks at Microsoft make the right move and secure the release of Diablo 3 for Xbox One. The real question I need to ask myself is, “Am I willing to purchase this game a third time?”

  1. I passed up on D3 on the PC and again when it released on consoles, but I’d highly consider an Xbox One version if it included the new expansion coming out.
