According to a forum post on NeoGAF, many gamers who pre-ordered Mario Kart 8 through Amazon claimed to have received an e-mail notifying them that the game will ship some time between April 16th and 19th, rather than its original release date of May 30th. Amazon’s current listing shows the release date of March 10th, which is obviously wrong, but this could be the source of the miscommunication.. or the rumors could be true, which is what we’re all hoping for. It’s also been rumored that Mario Kart 8 will release with a red case, which is shown on the Amazon listing, rather than a traditional Wii U blue case.
UPDATE: Amazon’s listing now shows the correct release date of May 30th. It seems it was just some internal SNAFU on their part.
While Mario Kart 8 continues with various traditions found in the previous entries, it’s the first in the series to feature HD visuals and anti-gravity racing segments. It will also include a new feature called Mario Kart TV that allows players to record and share footage of their races, as well as the ability to race as all of the Koopa children from Super Mario Bros. 3.
This was already a day-one purchase for me, so if the rumors turn out to be true and we get to enjoy Mario Kart 8 more than a month early, I’ll be a happy camper.. er, racer.

In other counties (myself included here in the States), it still reads May 30. I think the folks over at Amazon are having a moment, though I would LOVE for it to come out sooner!
You and me both! As soon as I checked Amazon after the NeoGAF post, it showed March 10th as a release date. I’m assuming it was just some internal SNAFU with Amazon, but I’m crossing my fingers it’s legit.
