Yes it’s true! Nintendo has finally heard everyone’s prayers and is releasing Game Boy Advance games onto the Virtual Console… on the Wii U only… in Europe. Well it’s a start, I guess. The good news to take away from this is that the games are coming! Check out the announcement trailer:
It seems as though it’s only matter of time until a similar announcement is made for North America but then again this is Nintendo we’re talking about here. They have a history of supremely dropping the ball. I mean, these are inherently portable games being released on their home console but not their portable one? Of course if I wanted to sell Wii Us this would be a step in the right direction.
It all kicks off on April 3rd with Advance Wars, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Metroid Fusion! In Europe… and only for the Wii U eShop.

Darn it! Gosh darn it! Drat! Double drat!! I wanted Advanced Wars on my 3DS. C’MAAAAWWWNN. Give me them classic Advanced Wars for my 3DS. I’d throw my money at you Nintendo 😦

Why wouldn’t they put older handheld games on the current handheld console? I really think stuff like this is trying to draw people to the Wii U, and I don’t see it working anytime soon.
Baby steps, I suppose, but it’s great to see the progress.
I loved Metroid Fusion back on the GBA, but I would MUCH rather re-play it at home on the big screen, so I’m totally okay with this move. I don’t have a lot of time where I’m away from home and able to play the 3DS, and if I’m at home I prefer a console over a handheld any day of the week. Still unsure why they wouldn’t release it on both, but I’ll definitely be picking up Metroid Fusion and M&L: SS when they inevitably release in NA.
Looks like they’re coming to North America 2 and the list is a little bigger than we thought.
