Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition for PS4 Contains Reaper of Souls Expansion and Exclusive Features

Although we still don’t have a definitive release date, Diablo III has been confirmed for the Playstation 4 for quite some time. After reading Daniel Tack’s hands-on preview over at Game Informer, it’s confirmed that Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition will not only include the Reaper of Souls expansion, but an interesting new Nemesis system and various other features exclusive to the console release.

So what’s the Nemesis system? Let’s say you’re playing a round of Diablo III on your PS4 and an enemy kills you. The new Nemesis system will take that enemy, level them up and then randomly place them inside of a friend’s game. As it kills your friends, it’ll continue to get stronger and stronger as they continue to make their way from friend list to friend list. I like to think of it as “they’ll kill two friends, and they’ll kill two friends“, and it can only get worse playing on the harder difficulties. If someone eventually kills this nemesis, everyone involved will receive rewards, so it’s win-win.

Also exclusive to the Ultimate Evil Edition is the ability to apprentice with your friends. If you pick up the game first and your friend waits a month or so, you can bring them in to your game and sync your levels. This allows your friend to enjoy Diablo‘s co-op experience without having to play catch-up first. Apprenticing someone who is a higher level will still give you loot relative to your base level, but you’ll still gain bonus experience while playing together.

Continuing the “make more friends” approach, you’ll be able to mail gifts back and forth like it’s some satanic version of Animal Upsidedown Crossing. When you or someone on your friend list picks up legendary loot, there is also a chance that you’ll receive loot as well.

I passed on Diablo III when it released for PC and last-gen consoles last year, but the Ultimate Evil Edition for PS4 has “day one purchase” written all over it. Now I just have to do that whole make friends thing.
