March was a busy month for the video game industry, with the Xbox One and PS4’s most highly anticipated games releasing within a mere 10 days of each other. Of course we’re talking about Titanfall and inFAMOUS: Second Son, but we also saw a few other big name releases in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeores & Dark Souls II. With NPD revealing monthly sales figures, who came out on top?
According to Gamespot, both consoles are still selling very well, but for the third month in a row Sony’s Playstation 4 took home the crown. Both consoles have a lot to be proud of as compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3’s first five months, sales are up 60%.
It’s a different story in the games department, as Microsoft’s exclusive Titanfall was the top selling game overall. Of course the PC and Xbox One sales are combined, but the Xbox One version does have a “strong attachment”. Sucker Punch’s PS4 exclusive inFAMOUS: Second Son ironically came in second, and was recently touted as selling over 1 million copies in its first 9 days on store shelves. Considering there is no PC version to pad its numbers, that’s pretty impressive — for inFAMOUS: Second Son and for Titanfall.
Here is a list of the top 10 selling console games during the month of March, straight from Gamespot:
- Titanfall
- inFAMOUS: Second Son
- South Park: The Stick of Truth
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Dark Souls II
- Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
- NBA 2K14
- Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster
- The LEGO Movie Videogame
- Minecraft 360 Edition
For what it’s worth, the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls expansion was the top selling PC game for March.
