The year isn’t complete if Nintendo doesn’t announce something related to the popular Pokemon franchise. Well, we finally have our first taste of what 2014 has in store for us in regards to the adorable Pocket Monsters with the announcement of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Last year, fans all across the world were treated to the first 3D handheld Pokemon game, in the form of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. While some criticized that the game was a bit too easy compared to earlier titles, it nonetheless was a hit, with new innovations such as the ability to customize your avatar, Berry farms that felt like you were in Harvest Moon, and, of course, Mega Evolutions.
Today, Nintendo has announced the remake of Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire, the two top-selling games for the Game Boy Advance. (That takes me back…) Sadly, Pokemon Emerald has not had a similar announcement, as Nintendo seems to be following the trend of only remaking two at a time, leaving the sister titles such as Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Crystal to welcome Emerald into their midsts.
A press release from Nintendo states:
“Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are a fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, which launched in 2003 and were fan-favourite hits on the Game Boy Advance system. The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world.”
Not many details have been released so far, but with E3 around the corner, Nintendo will no doubt be treating us to information on this new title, as well as information on other fan favorites such as Super Smash Bros.
Are you excited for this remake? What changes would you like to see in the game?

I need my Pokemon fix!
Me too!!!
I’m going Omega Ruby, because it’s got “OMEGA” in the title and that’s just badass.
I’m going for Alpha Sapphire I think, because I’m an Alpha.
I feel so ashamed guys. I’ve not finished Y yet and I want this one. 😥
You haven’t finished Y????!!!! *Hangs his head in shame*
lol I know bro I’m super horrible. I bought it midnight on release and still haven’t finished. 😦
That blows my mind, man. I payed it a little too much and got burnt out pretty quick.
Don’t tell anyone but so am I~
omg really? wow I guess we are in the same boat. (our secret) 😉
Shhhhh don’t let Miles know- oh wait he already does
yeah he does, he’s already judging us -_-
He’s so judgmental…
lol oh crud we shouldn’t say that he’ll make a comic of it in his defense.
I already got punched, what worse can he do?
I AM NOW PSYCHED! Alpha Sapphire or Omega Ruby… Huh…
OMEGA!!! It just sounds intense!
Alpha or Omega… Hoo boy this is gonna be tough… Let’s see the list
Alpha Omega
Kyogre Groudon
Pokémon Pokémon
Hoenn 3 gen Hoenn 3 gen
… I can’t pick! But maybe I’ll pick Alpha, since everybody’s picking Omega… But. I like Groudon and Kyogre! Gah! Stupid desicions…
Be a true fan and get both. I think that’s the only reasonable solution.
Thanks for the help, man 😉 I need it… WAIT! I should get one for the 3DS and the original one! I actually have the GameBoy Advance as my first system. I’ll just get Alpha and I’ll find Ruby at GameStop. I know they have it
Now that’s using your noodle! I just imagine you sitting with a 3DS in one hand and a Gameboy Advance in the other, powering through both versions at the same time.
Ha! I can see that perfectly! Thanks for the spark, man 🙂
YES TO BOTH
My first ever Pokemon game was Sapphire! I’ve been dying for a remake and this just makes me so excited!! Just thinking about Alpha Sapphire makes me want to lay down…
Nice!! My first was Gold, then Red. I never had this generation so I’m excited for the remake.
