Nerd Wars! Which ‘Next-Gen’ Console has the Best Exclusives?

Nerd Wars Banner

It’s time to once again fan the flames of the “Console War” fire. Today we pit “The Big Three” against each other in a battle to determine which next-gen system has the best exclusive titles. Let the Nerd Wars! begin!

At this point Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have all had their latest consoles on the market for at least six months. This has given players a significant amount of time to experiment with the various machines and get a feel for their respective games. The Xbox One and PS4 both launched with a handful of exclusive titles and the Wii U dropped a year before it’s competitors, giving it ample time to build a solid library of games.

Here are the definitive lists of “true” console exclusive titles for Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U. These games do not appear on multiple platforms, including PC.

Xbox One

  • Ryse: Son of Rome
  • Dead Rising 3
  • Forza Motorsport 5
  • Powerstar Golf
  • Killer Instinct
  • Crimson Dragon
  • Kinect Sports Rivals

PS4

  • Resogun
  • inFAMOUS: Second Son
  • Knack
  • Killzone: Shadow Fall
  • Basement Crawl
  • Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition

Wii U

  • Pikmin 3
  • Super Mario World
  • Wonderful 101
  • ZombiU
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
  • Chasing Aurora
  • Dr. Luigi
  • Pokemon Rumble U
  • Game and Wario
  • Lego City Undercover
  • Nano Assault Neo
  • New Super Mario Bros. U
  • NES Remix
  • NES Remix 2
  • Nintendo Land
  • Scram Kitty and His Buddy on Rails
  • Wii Fit U
  • Wii Party U

The Wii U has obviously managed to produce more exclusive titles given it’s early launch. The Xbox One and Ps4 are both working towards some rather impressive game lineups, but we won’t see any major releases until later this year.

With these lists in mind, which ‘next-gen’ console do you believe has the best exclusives or best potential for exclusives?

  1. Neither! I have an Xbox One so I could potentially answer with bias but, in my opinion both consoles aren’t far enough into their life cycles to offer enough to satisfy most consumers.

    1. WE definitely have some really great stuff to look forward to on Xbox One, though. Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Below, and D4 are going to rock my world.

  2. I know it’s had a lot longer to build a solid library, but I’m going with the Wii U. You can’t compete with those exclusives. As for PS4 vs Xbox One, Xbox One hands down. Dead Rising, Forza, Killer Instinct, Crimson Dragon, Ryse and Super TIME Force are all great games. Or at least I enjoyed them.

    1. You know how I feel man, I’m right there with you. Dead Rising 3 is incredible, Forza Motorsport rocks Gran Turismo, and Killer Instinct is one of the best 2D fighters ever made.

  3. Like AMGFAIL has said in terms of time it’s had the WiiU had built up a stellar first party collection, well I think so as Nintendo fan.

Honestly I couldn’t pick between PS4 and Xbone. I own a PS4 and love Infamous & Killzone. Didn’t pick up Knack but it’s not really had the best acclaim. Ryse and Dead Rising didn’t really seem that important for me, but Forza looked stunning.

So.. yeah Nintendo in terms of cheating with the longer release time, and legit bailing on an answer for Xbone and PS4

    1. Wii U finally started pumping out some great exclusives but it took basically a year for that to start happening. If you are talking about the first six months of each console Nintendo would have been destroyed, but thankfully games like Super Mario World and Pikmin 3 have given the console much more value.

Dead Rising 3 is an amazing sandbox game, but I loved the first two. Ryse is beautiful game worth a playthrough, but it’s a tad repetitive.

I have to go Xbox One, you know, because I love America.

  4. In terms of overall content, I’d have to go with the Wii U.

But for my personal preference, inFAMOUS brings the victory home for the PS4. As much as I’ve enjoyed the exclusives that I’ve played on the other two, none of them sucked me in like Second Son did. I was determined to finish it for my review, but I ended up doing a much more thorough gameplay because I could not bear the idea of setting it down until I had ferreted out every little secret. And waiting for Paper Trail to drop was agony.

So, yeah. In terms of logic, looking at the list, the trophy should go theoretically to the Wii U, in the universe of Spock. But for my personal, biased, ‘What the fuck grabbed me?’ opinion, it has to be PS4 right now, until another console gives me a game that steals me away and doesn’t give me back until I’m a worn out shell of a player.
