Originally leaked and later confirmed, EA has announced that it plans to reveal Battlefield: Hardline at E3.

The leaked trailer shows off multiplayer and single player portions of the new game. One of the biggest changes is that it will not be about military combatants but rather police. Even the multiplayer has been changed to reflect this with a new Heist Mode that conjures comparisons to Pay Day. DICE is apparently still doing the multiplayer portion but Visceral has been brought on board to do the single player campaign.

The footage goes on to shows things old and new to the Battlefield series, such as wide open maps and vehicles. New weapons and customizations will be available as expected. To play up the detective style of the campaign, an enemy sensing mode much like detective mode in Batman was briefly displayed.

Even with the change of scenery, it has the look and feel of a Battlefield game. The official website is nothing more than a place holder. Check back on June 9th after the game is officially revealed for more details.

  1. Kudos for ditching the CoD-like cloying warfare premise for something quite different. Maybe it’ll be worth checking after all.
