When Nintendo first announced a development partnership with Bandai Namco for Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS there was immediately some wild speculation about possible Namco character crossovers. At E3 yesterday, Nintendo showed their partners a little love and revealed the newest fighter making his way to the iconic brawler: Pacman.

It becomes apparent quite quickly that Pacman has a very unique set of skills. In addition to the classic Pac-attack chomp, he has the ability to summon powers from other famous Namco universes, such as Galaga. When the going gets tough, he can even call it a little help from his ghostly pals or unleash the power of his iconic fruit.

You can’t help but feel a tingle of nostalgic bliss when you see that bright, yellow smiling face. We’re very happy to see Mr. Pacman getting some much needed TLC, but we totally saw this coming. Nearly two years ago we published a very special comic teasing the possibility of Pacman making his way into Super Smash Bros.

Pacman’s career isn’t the magnificent spectacle it once was, but the new Super Smash Bros. gives our hungry hero another chance to shine. Nintendo couldn’t have picked a more fitting character to add to the roster.

Super Smash Bros. is scheduled to release on October 3rd for 3DS and this “holiday season” for Wii U

    1. He was definitely the best choice in terms of Namco characters. He is an icon and seeing his amazing collection of retro moves makes me a happy camper.

    1. I laughed out loud to myself when I read about this last night. You know? Like sane people do.

He pulled down the rope and started jumping with it. I imagine an epic “Rocky” type montage of him bulking up.
