2014 has been full of Dead Island news, between E3’s Dead Island 2 trailer, and the early access MOBA, Dead Island: Epidemic, releasing on Steam. But wait! There’s more!
Developer Fatshark Sweden is currently working on Escape Dead Island, a single-player “survival mystery” game that’s coming our way this fall for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Featuring a heavy narrative and taking place six weeks after the original Dead Island (segueing in to Dead Island 2), Escape Dead Island is drawing its own comparison to titles like Dead Space, Darksiders, and Zelda, as well as the films Groundhog Day and Memento. Whether or not it actually succeeds will be up for debate, but name dropping some of the bigger names in the industry is only going to raise fans’ expectations.
According to Destructoid’s reveal article, you play as Cliff, a loudmouth and part of a three man documentary team in Banoi who are trying to uncover the mystery of the original game. Waking up every day at 4:37 in some sort of time loop, you’ll scavenge for items and open up new branching paths, although Destructoid determined the bit they played was quite linear.
Escape Dead Island will be releasing this fall for $39.99 and will include beta access to Dead Island 2 to sweeten the pot.
