Ever dream of using your sweet Dualshock 4 controller while playing your PS3? Then… good news! Dreams do come true!
Thanks to a recent system update to the PS3, you can now use the Dualshock 4 wirelessly with your PS3. Mind you, the solution is not perfect since some functions like sixaxis and rumble may not work. Plus some games are still incompatible with the controller and console combination, but the overwhelming functionality is there.
Follow these instructions from Joystiq to make your controller dreams come true:
“First, head to Settings on the PS3 media bar, then Accessory Settings and Manage Bluetooth Devices and finally Register New Device. After that the PS3 will scan for Bluetooth controllers, so to make your DualShock 4 show up hold the PS and Share button at the same time. After a few seconds the controller’s light bar will start blinking, and then it’ll show up on the PS3 screen ready to be connected.”
Feel better? Or do you have a sense of confusion not knowing which system you are playing?

Duuuuude I’m so excited! This means I can pool the 3 ps3 and 1 ps4 controllers for some four player awesomeocity.
Curiously, I must ask, what games would you be playing with four controllers on a PS3?
Well Little Big Planet of course but mostly I just want to coerce three friends to play fat princess with me.
Nice!
This is awesome news, and a big improvement over the wired limitation it had before. I guess I’ll be getting a DualShock 4 soon!
