All Club Nintendo Rewards This Year Are.. Digital Games. Woo?

Club Nintendo has generally provided some excellent bonuses for reaching Gold or Platinum status, like posters, statues, hats, etc., but not this year. If you’ve managed to reach either level of dedication within Club Nintendo, prepare to be rewarded with.. old games. Yep. Get hype.

Those of you who’ve reached Platinum can choose from digital downloads of Game & Wario, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, NES Remix, Dr. Luigi, EarthBound, Fluidity: Spin Cycle, Dillon’s Rolling Western, and Mario & Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move. If nothing here tickles your fancy, you can decide to pick from the list of Gold games instead.

If you only managed to reach Gold status this year, you can pick from Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Super Mario Bros., Zelda II, Donkey Kong 3, Wario Land 2, Metroid, and Super Mario Land 2.

As someone who usually hits Platinum status with the Big N, this is extremely disappointing. Going from a physical reward to an old list of digital downloads isn’t exciting, especially when NES games are a whopping $5 on the Virtual Console any day of the year. Even if they let us pick a few games from the list instead of just one, the lists aren’t anything to write home about.

So how do you feel about the situation? What game will you be picking? As a Platinum member, I’ll probably suck it up and get Dr. Luigi for Wii U since it’s one of the few things I don’t already own. Chances are that I won’t even play it more than once. Either way, the entire situation is disappointing, especially for the fans and loyal supporters who continue to purchase Nintendo products while they’re in dire need of sales.

      1. Ohhh, those are just point-redemptions, not Gold or Platinum level end-of-year rewards. Still neat, and hopefully they end up on our store this year.

  1. A big problem is what if you already have the games? A physical option would be nice then. Can’t see many hardcore nintendo fans not having lot of those games on their system.

    1. Or in the case of my girlfriend’s brother, what if you hit gold or plat and you don’t have a 3DS or Wii U? He’s completely boned with his reward.
