As if The Walking Dead fans weren’t excited enough about season 4 being released on DVD and Blu-ray on August 26th, Starbreeze Studios announced that their developer Overkill Software is producing a new game based on the franchise. Some may recognize Overkill Software as the developer behind Payday: The Heist, and Payday 2.
“It will be gameplay focused, ferocious, and bring chaos to the traditional industry model–from us developers straight to you.” – Bo Andersson Klint, CEO of Starbreeze Studios
The game is the result of a new ‘long-term’ partnership between Starbreeze Studios and Skybound Interactive, the company owned by the creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman. This partnership is planned to extend into the next decade, and will be a new chapter for Starbreeze Studios.
When shown the project, Kirkman felt that it was the ‘co-op action game that fans have been waiting for’. Very little has been released about the game so far, though it is known that it will be made using Starbreeze Studio’s Diesel engine. While platforms have not been mentioned yet, a quote about the Diesel engine being updated ‘for the next generation’ leaves the impression that it will be for the Xbox One and PS4, as well as the PC master race. The game will be continuously supported, with free software updates, and paid DLC.
