Reader Discussion: It’s the Weekend, So Whatcha Playin?

Another week, another Friday, and like Rebecca Black says, you gotta get down on Friday! So uh, let’s get down.. to business. I’m sure you’re busy this weekend, but we all know that’s a lie. You’ll be inside, rocking your favorite pajamas all weekend long just like we are. So let’s hear the truth! What are you all playing this weekend?

Me, I’m working on my legendary cloak quest chain in World of Warcraft in preparation for the new expansion, Warlords of Draenor. I may take a break and jump back in to some Black Ice or Crypt of the NecroDancer, but this is where I’ve spent most of what little free time I have. I also just finished Residue, which is a neat platformer/adventure game from The Working Parts (They Breathe).

  1. I already spammed it on Twitter but I’m working on Tales of Xillia as well as FFXIV 2.0. I’m working on unlocking the different raids, so myself and my co-guild leader Remy are going to be running Sycrus Tower some time today. I’m also working on my Scholar’s Relic weapon, just need the two materia then I can run the Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan hard modes to complete it. I just got my Zenith for my Summoner’s Relic as well. Also leveling Conjurer class to unlock White Mage, since mixing the abilities of both of those classes is amazing.

Xillia, I’m hoping to blast through the story this weekend so I’m prepared for Xillia 2 on Tuesday. I’m getting the CE, so kind of excited.

      1. I love my SMN. Such a fun class. I’m happy I played Shadow Priest in WoW because it gave me a good understanding of how important DoTs are. People keep reminding me (because I’m a newbie) that DoTs are gonna be my main damage and I keep laughing because… I got dis.

      2. Ironically the same person who started lecturing me on SMN started asking me for advice. Of course he didn’t listen and started throwing out numbers and things that didn’t matter while I was trying to explain his rotation but it still amused me how the tables turned.

I do hate that you have a chance of getting yelled at in raids as a SCH for not DPSing. WHM’s are left alone but god forbid if you don’t DPS as much as you heal, even though your job class says HEALER.

      3. Yeah, it’s like Discipline in WoW now. Most of your healing comes from Attonement which heals as you deal damage with holy fire and smite. It’s not as good as full on healing big damage, but in raids, it’s just as good as having a mediocre dps that can heal the raid at the same time.

      4. Well with SCH your abilities for healing and DPS are still separate. I have a hotbar for healing and a hotbar for DPS since the abilities don’t overlap. Plus you have to toggle cleric stance to do any real damage so it’s frustrating.

      5. I’m really not a fan of how pet bars work when you use a controller, so I was at the point where I was just going to go BLM full time instead. I really like the BLM playstyle, jumping back and forth between fire and ice spells.

      6. I happily confess that I don’t bother with the pet bar and let my pet do whatever while I focus on my toon. I just set it on whatever stance or whatever that I need and let it do it’s work. Eos has healed everything I needed, Titan taunts off me, Garuda blows shit up and knocks enemies back if they get too close.

      7. Yeah, I’m just bad about putting Titan on passive while I travel from town to town and he ends up pulling everything and despawning constantly.

      8. Lol yeah I do enjoy that he keeps things off me though. I use my summon as a bait while I ride so I don’t get hit by heavy.

Does that make me a bad master?

    1. We just finished a Xillia replay in anticipation of Xillia 2 =D Am also doing small FF14 things (scholar animus weapon… I think that’s the one that involves 9 books?), but slowly since everything takes me so long :s I also just started Richard and Alice on steam (which I didn’t realize was a bit of an adventure game, but it’s not been too ‘use X on Y’ yet).

      1. I loved the story of Richard & Alice a lot. Great characters and it all comes together in a nice WTF kind of way. It gets a bit too standard toward the end in terms of gameplay, like you said, use X on Y, but the story kept me going.

      2. I FINALLY got all the proper caster-healer gear for my SMN/SCH after grinding til 5am and doin some today too. And got my Zenith for SCH. Now both are decked out and I can level my CNJ to get the cross class benefits of WHM.

Xillia is loading now as I catch up on comments >.> time for energy drinks

  2. I’m playing Elite: Dangerous – Space Trucking while listening to country and drinking beer. Maybe I can pick up a hitch-hiker or two to throttle on my way?

  3. Played some Fallout 3 this evening. Good as always. đŸ™‚ So many years after I find it interesting to play. Also feels a bit darker than New Vegas. Will probably play Warblade tomorrow evening with my wife – for those who don’t know Warblade, it is Galaga on steroids with tons of upgrades, bonuses and so forth. An addicting game, so beware….. đŸ˜‰

    1. Fallout 3 is one of those games that I enjoyed, but am ashamed to admit that I’ve never finished. I picked up the complete edition of New Vegas on PS3 and haven’t even started it yet lol. Woops?

Warblade sounds right up my alley. I like hectic shmups.

  4. I have two beautiful young nieces (8, and 7) who I had to babysit on Sunday. We jammed on some Mario Kart 8. Great game. Too often I think those of us who have been gaming since the 70’s forget how important all ages titles are. The good ones anyway. Anything that means my nieces will be telling future gens “Pfft. You think that is difficult, back in my day, our uncle got us….” can only be a good thing. For the industry, and gaming community at large. As an aside their favorite vehicles are the Horse & Buggy, and the Cat car. Also they completely clowned me. Before long, they’ll be beating RPG’s, FPS titles, and Mega Man difficult platformers.

    1. That’s awesome! Some of these games that I used to beat as a 5 or 6 year old on the NES, I can’t even beat the first level anymore. Give them some good stories to tell!
