Gamers who own a Vita and enjoy a survival-themed game may now rejoice, as Don’t Starve is finally making the jump to the portable device. Originally released back in 2013 on Steam with a PS4 port earlier this year, the Vita version has reached certification and will be made available on September 3rd.
The game will be listed at €13.99, which translates to roughly $18.46 for North America. It will include both the original game, and the Reign of Giants expansion, which includes new characters, seasons, biomes, and a plethora of other things that only exist to kill you. The original game is centered around a scientist named Wilson who finds himself in a dark, dreary world full of all kinds of strange creatures that want nothing more than to see him dead. It’s up to the player to help him survive by keeping him fed, sane, and healthy.
The Reign of Giants expansion includes:
- Two new characters: Wigfrid, an actress who takes her role of an ancient Valkyrie a bit too seriously; and Webber, a young boy who lives inside of the spider that tried to kill him.
- The introduction of seasons to add the danger of elements, such as torrential rain in the spring and blistering heat in the summer.
- New biomes (environments) full of bigger, badder monsters, and new items to gather that will either help you survive, or kill you faster.
- An extra save slot.
- Giants, because with a name like that, we’d all be disappointed without giants!
Due to the need to rewrite backend code to optimize the game for Vita play, the ability to Cross-Play is unavailable. But to make up for that, developer Klei Entertainment has offered Cross-Buy instead. If you purchased the PS4 version earlier this year, you’ll get the Vita version for free, and vice versa.

I picked up Don’t Starve during the Steam bundle and it’s pretty fun. Hard as hell, but that’s the point. There’s pretty much no tutorial or anything, so you just use what you learned to live longer the next time. Great art style too.
Yeah the art style looks gorgeous. I’m a sucker for a unique looking art style.
Hopefully you’re a sucker for getting decimated by swarms of bees, or massive trees that have zero concern for your well being.
Absolutely! I hope it’s a sucker for me swearing like a sailor and curling up in the fetal position.
These trees give no fucks. You’ve been warned, lol.
I always knew those trees were a bit shifty.
