Shin’en Multimedia, a primarily Nintendo-centric developer, confirmed earlier today via Twitter that their indie shmup Nano Assault NEO will be making its way to the Playstation 4 this year.
Formerly a Wii U exclusive, Nano Assault NEO should sit well with anyone familiar with Housemarque‘s Super Stardust HD on Playstation 3, as they play almost identically. It’s a fast-paced shoot-em-up in which you move your ship around different viruses in zero gravity, much like how the planets worked in Super Mario Galaxy. Check out the trailer below for a look at the game in action on Wii U.
So how will the PS4 version be any different? For starters, there will obviously be no off-screen co-op mode, as the PS4 doesn’t have the Wii U‘s GamePad. Apparently the PS4 version will also run in 1080p, instead of the 720p resolution found in the Wii U version. In response to a fan’s question about the game’s resolution, Shin’en did confirm over Twitter that 1080p wasn’t possible on Wii U due to its processing power.
Nano Assault NEO still stands as one of my favorite indie titles on the Wii U, and I’m glad to see Shin’en bring the game to a much larger audience on Sony‘s PS4. Although the German developers confirmed the game’s release earlier today, there was no mention of a release date aside from “this year”.
