Free Current-Gen Upgrades on Last-Gen Digital Copies of Destiny

destinybeta-wave

If you’re planning to eventually make the leap to a current-gen console, but already purchased the digital download of Destiny on the Xbox 360 or PS3, Bungie will be allowing free digital upgrades to the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game until January 15th, 2015.

Bungie‘s free upgrade program covers the digital base game, the digital Guardian edition, and the game’s expansion pass, although you may only upgrade within the same console family; so no Xbox 360 to PS4, or PS3 to Xbox One.

As a reminder, Destiny releases next Tuesday, September 9th, just in case you’ve somehow missed the intense overflow of news lately. If you plan on picking up an Xbox One or a PS4 alongside Destiny, both consoles are currently offering their own respective deals to help you decide which to pick.

Buy an Xbox One any time next week and you can choose any retail game that’s $59.99 or less and take it home for free. Play your cards right and wait until the 9th, and you can pick up Destiny for zero cost. Sony and Bungie appear to be joined at the hip as of late, so it’s no surprise that they’re offering an exclusive white PS4 console that’s bundled along with Destiny and a 30-day subscription to PSN Plus for $449.99.

  1. Really cool of Bungie to do this. I know a few devs did upgrades for $10 or so with some of last year’s cross-gen games, but this is way better than that!

    1. Yeah, I remember a few games did that when the new consoles launched to help bridge the sales gap, so this was a great idea from Bungie. With all the Sony hugging they’ve been doing lately, I’m surprised it wasn’t just a Playstation exclusive feature lol.

      1. You know, I’ve no idea… but I think it’s just a regular one, but with the two games.
You could choose from three things: the console + one extra controller, Fifa2015 or CoD and Destiny.

      2. CoD & Destiny seems like the best bet, yeah. I know here in the States they’re releasing a CoD exclusive console with a 1TB HD instead of 500GB, plus it has an orange and black case instead of the standard one. Looks nice, but I think it’s $100 more?
