Ubisoft Not Offering Watch Dogs DLC or Season Pass on Wii U

With the Wii U version of Watch Dogs already being delayed until November, and the commonly criticized graphical downgrade for home consoles apparently being worse on the Wii U, what’s another way to deter even more people from buying the game? Taking away all of its DLC content, of course!

The decision to release Watch Dogs on Wii U without DLC was announced on Twitter, but the tweet was eventually erased.. just not before Reddit took notice. On top of releasing late without DLC, the Wii U version of Watch Dogs will launch at the full retail price of $59.99, while arguably superior versions on the Xbox One and PS4 are already reduced to ~$40.00.

In a previous interview discussing the future of Assassin’s Creed on the Wii U, Ubisoft made it pretty clear that they have no intentions of releasing mature-themed games for the console after Watch Dogs, due to lackluster sales figures. With their action games already selling poorly on the console, does it make sense at all from a business perspective to invest extra finances in to re-coding the DLC for Wii U? Skipping DLC altogether isn’t going to win them any new fans, and the decision to avoid doing so tells me that they’re already anticipating poor sales as it is.

What do you think? Is this a smart move on behalf of Ubisoft, or should they have sucked it up and delivered the complete experience to the loyal Wii U fanbase that’s been patiently waiting for the game’s release for over two years?

Rather than tip-toeing through the tulips, I’ll just come out and say that I personally felt Watch Dogs was a mediocre game and that I already expected its less-than-stellar reception to heavily impact sales of the Wii U version.
