The award winning MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is scheduled to release a new content update with Dreams of Ice in patch 2.4. However, that’s not the only thing on the horizon for the legions of monthly subscribers.
Announced today at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Las Vegas, NV, the MMO’s first official expansion will be heading our way in Spring 2015. Dubbed Heavensward, the expansion will include a plethora of new content, including job classes, dungeons, and airships. Yes, airships. Check out the new trailer below!
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward will include the following:
- An increase in level cap from 50 to 60.
- Massive new areas.
- A brand new playable race with male and female characters.
- Multiple new job classes.
- New Primals, with one being exclusive to the Final Fantasy XIV universe.
- New dungeons. Kotaku states there will be more than 3 or 4.
- New high-end raid dungeons.
- Free-companies can build their own airships. Airships!
- New gear and recipes.
With World of Warcraft being a huge competitor, and their new expansion pack Warlords of Draenor scheduled to launch next month, the timing couldn’t be better for Square Enix. This gives Warcraft players plenty of time to explore the new content and be ready for something new; and that something new could very well be a jump to Final Fantasy XIV come Spring.
Are you excited for the new expansion, Heavensward?
I stopped playing Final Fantasy XIV a few months back, as I can’t seem to juggle more than one MMO at a time. With WoW being my primary MMO, I know all to well that the subscriber base takes a tumble a few months after a new expansion launches and players grow tired of the same ol’ same ol’. With a new FFXIV expansion slated for Spring, I wouldn’t be surprised if I put my WoW subscription on hold around then just to check out the new content myself. I really, really enjoyed my time in Eorzea and I’ve been contemplating coming back for some time. Maybe this is just the excuse I needed?
