Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas released 10 years ago as of tomorrow, and to celebrate, Rockstar Games has included a few new events in Grand Theft Auto Online, and will also be re-releasing San Andreas on Xbox 360 with a bit of the ol’ remaster treatment.
Although no price has been confirmed, San Andreas will be upscaled to 720p, complete with improved draw distance, and feature 33 different achievements to unlock. It should be ready to download on Xbox Live starting tomorrow, but there’s no word on a PS3 release at this time.
In Grand Theft Auto Online, the San Andreas Anniversary Weekend is now live and will only run until Sunday night, 10/26. By participating in the event, you’ll earn double RP and GTA$, and can also take part in San Andreas Throwback Jobs; fan created missions with nods to the birthday boy.
You can also jump in to Free Mode and collect fallen crates from the sky, containing 4 different t-shirts featuring logos for radio stations found in San Andreas–Bounce FM, K-DST, K-JAH, and K-Rose–as well as in-game cash and weapons. Shops will also be offering a 50% discount on all green clothing, BMX bikes, bandanas, and other accessories (a throwback to your San Andreas gang’s color of choice), as well as a 25% discount on lowered-suspension vehicle mods.
If you’re looking for more Grand Theft Auto on the go, you can also pick up Grand Theft Auto III, San Andreas, and Vice City for iOS/Android for just a couple of bucks this weekend.
Will you be picking up San Andreas tomorrow on Xbox 360?

Hard to believe it’s been 10 years I remember getting it for my birthday back in 2004
Yeah, my friends and I would play this for hours and hours back in 2004. The soundtrack was so good!
OMG This makes me feel so old. I loved this game so much. My favorite thing to do was drive the hovercraft off of Mount Chiliad. You get some serious like 10 minute air if you aim it correctly. Ahhh memories.
P.S. They already re-released it last year on PS3 (and no one really knew about it unless they were looking) that’s probably why there was no sources on it. It was in a Rockstar throwback section of PS2 Classics on the PS Store along with Manhunt, Warriors, and Bully.
It was released on PS3 and Xbox 360 as an “original”, so it didn’t have upscaled graphics or trophy/achievement support. That’s the main difference.
You’re exactly right. Hmm now you’ve got me wondering if they’ll re-release it for PS3 and maybe even PS4 and Xbox One.
Here’s hoping it’s not 360 exclusive. I prefer Xbox, but I don’t like when cross-platform games exclude one another.
I’m a Sony person but I’m the same. Excluding is just like alienating fans.
I remember going to the midnight release of this game. It was awesome. It’s one of my favorite GTA games of all time.
Yeah, I really liked SA. I’d say it’s tied with 4 for my favorite.
