Final Fantasy Type-0: Sice Breakdown

header

Welcome to the Type-0 Breakdown. Over the next couple of months, I’ll be giving a rough breakdown on the characters and other aspects of Square Enix’s upcoming release, Final Fantasy Type-0. While these won’t be in-depth guides that will tell you how to gear or exploit the game, they will be brief introductions to the characters, as well as character stat rankings. I’ll be telling you what’s going to be good for beginners, a challenge for advanced players, and which character personality might drive you nutty. All of it will be spoiler-free, so fear not. This will just be a quick glance to get you geared up and pumped to play!

Please note that there is the possibility that abilities or other small changes may be made in the translation of the game. The information in the guide is based upon the existing Japanese terms and controls used. Very little is expected to change in the released game.

Last time we met Cinque, the tank, who enjoys smashing things just as much as the Hulk. As whimsical as her happy-smashing was, things are going to take a dark turn with Sice, the Reaper.

Sice1

A bonefied tomboy, Sice is the girl who isn’t afraid to get in your face and point out your shortcomings. She doesn’t mince words and means what she says. Despite her rather brutal method of fighting, she prefers to avoid conflict; but corner her and she will fight like a frenzied animal, not backing down until her enemies are dust. She is easily annoyed by Trey and his endless chatter. Having been near-starved as a child, she is obsessed with food.

Sice wields a massive scythe that can easily cut down enemies in her path, but that isn’t the only reason why I call her the Reaper: Sice powers up on the Hatred of the enemies she defeats. The more Hatred she absorbs, the stronger she becomes. Getting struck can cause the aura to dissipate and force her to begin rebuilding from nothing. To play into this style, Sice favors a hit-and-run form of combat. Her regular attacks allow her to glide, allowing a player to strike, move away, then strike again. Sice also possesses an instant-kill ability that is more successful with higher amounts of Hatred.

With Sice, it’s all about quick-movements and some rather… creepy attacks. (It doesn’t help that she tends to giggle when using Dark Zone…) Quite obviously, Sice is at her best when you’re fighting a large amount of enemies. Players must be ready to be quick on their controls to ensure that she is constantly evading attacks, or risk losing her accumulated Hatred.

I’m not going to lie, I feel like she could have a very successful career in a horror game. Besides her Hatred accumulation, Sice has a few other abilities that make her a stand-out in missions involving a ridiculous amount of carnage.

Here’s a quick peek at said abilities:

  • Absorb Hatred – Sice absorbs the Hatred of defeated foes to increase Attack Power. Damage to Sice causes her to lose the accumulated Hatred.
  • Dark Nebula – Sice shoots a dark-red projectile in a straight line. Powers up based on how much Hatred is accumulated.
  • Dark Zone – Sice stabs her scythe into the ground to create a damaging Phantoma pool under enemies. DZ Effect Addition allows Sice to absorb 50% of the damage caused by Dark Zone to restore her HP.
  • Poison Wall – Sice creates a wall a mist. Enemies that come into contact with it are inflicted with Poison.
  • Black Hole – Sice creates an orb of gravity that draws enemies in, allowing her to hit multiple targets with a single hit.

Sice’s stats are fairly average, with nothing as a stand-out other than a high proficiency with Lightning Magic that can make her ideal when facing enemies that are weak against that element.

Sice’s stats are ranked as the following among all the characters:

  • HP – 6th
  • MP – 10th
  • Strength – 10th
  • Defense – 5th
  • Flame Magic – 12th
  • Cold Magic – 10th
  • Lightning Magic – 3rd
  • Defense Magic – 7th

Overall, Sice can be a bit tricky to play if players aren’t prepared to evade attacks. Moreso than any other character, Sice’s proficiency in battle is very much correlated to how well she avoids strikes. But for missions that involve a ridiculous amount of carnage, she will excel. Just be prepared for her wicked little chuckles when she casts Dark Zone and watches the ghoulish arms drag her enemies down to Hades.
