Howl At The Moon On May 19th

Let’s get the high fives and ass slaps going, Destiny’s second expansion, House of Wolves, has been given a release date of May 19th! Huzzah!!!!

As craftily detailed in Bungie’s press release the expansion will include…stuff. That’s right, in what has become the typical Bungie fashion of over using ambiguity, the only real fact in the release is the release date of May 19th. Never in recent memory has a company been so blatantly vague and obscure about content with an imminent release.

What will be included in the House of Wolves will be a guess-timate based on what was included in The Dark Below expansion. Expect about three more “story” missions(and I use that term very loosely), a strike, additional raid, and three multiplayer maps. The Dark Below also had a second strike but only on Playstation platforms, making this a possibility in the House of Wolves as well.

The video above does show that the Reef will likely be the main focus of the expansion. This is where the Awoken reside and players first met the Queen. Those that played Destiny in its early days will remember the Queen’s Wrath event that happened once and was pulled back for “re-tooling”. This was to be the event that alternated with the Iron Banner but has not seen the light of day since its first incarnation.

Watch the video and keep a keen ear to hear the Queen speak of her wrath. It is only a guess but it could be possible for the Queen or her emissary to become a bounty vendor in the like of Eris Morn. This expansion may be the “re-tooling” of the Queen’s Wrath event that we have been waiting to see reappear.

The sum total of The Dark Below expansion was about three hours of content. Look for the House of Wolves to provide the same. Given the lack luster response to The Dark Below and the overall underwhelming sentiment towards Destiny, Bungie would be well served to make this expansion its best ever or risk loosing players forever.

I put a ton of time into this game and truly want it to be great but I also have to admit that it is lacking in many ways and Bungie’s “fixes” haven’t fixed what is truly wrong with the game. Bungie would do best by me and many others to actually include the lore of the universe in the game and make the loot system tolerable. Having been exposed to games like Diablo III and Neverwinter makes Destiny’s loot drops look horribly pathetic. Those games may drop a bunch of trash but at least they drop loot.

  1. It seems odd that Bungie isn’t doing much to entice new players this late in to the game with this expansion. Granted nothing has really been explained yet, but for something launching in a little over a month I’d expect a little more clarity.
