Happy Halloween! What Horror Games Are You Playing Today?

A wise prophet by the name of Glenn Danzig once said “I remember Halloween!”, and I continue to do so each and every year. Alas, gone are the days of dressing up as Jason Voorhees or a Ninja Turtle and traveling door to door in search of delicious candy, but in my adult years it’s become a yearly tradition to consume a fair amount of booze, watch horror movies, and play video games. By the way, if you’re the person handing out handfuls of pennies or a toothbrush on Halloween, you’re an asshole. Stop doing that.

The girlfriend and I are doing a couples costume this year (“AWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!”), where I’m dressing up as Ghostface from Scream and she’s Jason Voorhees. When our powers combine, we form the Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killa. Ta da!

Costumes aside, we’ll be carving up pumpkins like Jason does to camp counselors, probably watch WolfCop again, and dive in to Until Dawn. The purpose of the game is to make choices and see the consequences, but we’re playing it as a serial killer. Our goal is to kill off the entire cast in creative ways so that no one survives before the credits roll. It’s been a blast. I might also hop in to Bloodborne, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to commit just yet.

If you’re looking for some good horror to watch on Netflix this year, I highly recommend WolfCop, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Housebound, The Sacrament, Starry Eyes, Contracted, Oculus, Scream, V/H/S, or You’re Next. There’s plenty to choose from, but those are some good ones. If you’re a fan of campy horror comedies, the new Tremors film is already on Netflix and Creep is.. well, creepy. Of course there’s always classics like Monster Squad, Hellraiser, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Children of the Corn, Rosemary’s Baby, Nightbreed, and The Omen.

So Halloween is officially upon us, boys and ghouls! Let’s not waste any time. What games are you playing to celebrate the best holiday of the year? What horror films are you watching? Sound off in the comments below!

  1. I sadly have to miss out on the festivities but that said, I will recommend a movie that will make you crap your pants in fear. Fire In The Sky. A movie from around 1993 loosely based on the accounts of a guy who claimed to be a victim of an alien abduction. The ILM practical effects were top notch at the time, and still hold up today.

  2. I had a great time playing Until Dawn on Halloween. I took a little break to play some Party Hard for stabby goodness.
